Emily Volman is a screenwriter, director, comedian, and songwriter with a soft spot for sweet stories, offbeat humor, and emotionally unstable characters who have the best intentions. Most recently, she was a topliner on the music team for the Emmy® Award-Winning Apple TV+ series Frog and Toad, which won Outstanding Music Direction and Composition for an Animated Program.
After training at The Groundlings School and The Second City Los Angeles, Emily built a career bouncing between comedy, music, film, and television. She has appeared in hosting roles on GAC’s Top 20 Countdown and Remote Ideas, while her comedy writing has been featured in The Ellen DeGeneres Show, The Moth Radio Hour, Splitsider, and someecards. She also secured a screenwriting development deal with SouthPaw Entertainment and somehow found time to open and run Nashville’s first improv comedy club.
Last year, Emily wrote and directed her debut short film, Concessions, which became an official selection of the Studio City Film Festival, further validating that social discomfort is fun to watch when it’s not you. She is currently developing an episodic, music-heavy comedy.
Emily studied theatre at Emerson College, earned a music degree from Loyola Marymount University, and later completed a master’s degree and certification in sex therapy. She is also a certified Master Gardener, which makes for a deeply confusing LinkedIn profile.
